Submission and Review Rules of the
Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science
Chapter 1 General Provisions
Article 1 (Purpose) The purpose of this rule is to stipulate the details as to the submission and review of the manuscript to be published in the Journal of the Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science.
Article 2 (Academic Scope) The academic scope of the manuscript to be submitted to this journal includes the basic and applied research results about inheritance and breeding of grass/ forage crops, grassland establishment and its management, production and utilization of forage, processing and evaluation of forage, livestock grazing and its management and other related subjects.
Article 3 (Publishing) Journal of the Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science is a fully peer reviewed journal with a rigorous multi-stage editorial screening and assessment process. It launched in 1978 with volume 1 and number 1. It is to be published quarterly (March 31, June 30, September 30, December 31).
Article 4 (Publishing Items) The types of manuscripts are composed of original research. Other items that can be published are as follows;
1. Academic publication and the minutes of academic society meetings
2. Total table of contents and the title index of the relevant year
3. Names of the academic society executives and the editorial board members
4. Articles of association and all the rules of the academic society and the direction to write the manuscript
5. Other items related to the work of the academic society, advertisement and etc.
Article 5 (Publication Fee) A fixed amount of publication fee must be paid for the manuscript to be accepted in the academic journal depending upon the number of pages after the printing of the first edition. The publication fee shall be 400,000 won per manuscript based on a 6 page printed paper, and when exceeding this, additional 50,000 won per page must be paid.
Chapter 2 Submission
Article 6 (Qualification for Submission)
1. The author must comply with these rules when writing the manuscript.
2. The first author and the corresponding author must be the member of the academic society, and in the case of collaboration, it could be a member or an non-member.
3. In case that all the authors are non-members, the acceptance shall be decided by the Editorial Board.
4. For submission, the first author and the corresponding author shall be confirmed to have paid the annual membership fees up to the past three years from the year of submission.
Article 7 (Consent to the Use of Copyright and Obligation)
1. The copyright of the manuscript accepted in the academic journal shall belong to this academic society upon the acceptance, and it shall not be reproduced without approval of the academic society.
2. This academic society confirms the consent as to the copyright when submitting the manuscript through the online manuscript submission/evaluation system, and in case of no consent, the manuscript shall not be submitted
3. Because all the issues related to the copyright occurring from the citation of the works of others shall be the res- ponsibility of the author, the author shall submit a manuscript with care thereto.
4. All or parts of the published manuscript may be utilized for research or for educational purpose depending upon 『CC BY-NC: author indication-noncommercial』.
Article 8 (Ethics for Research and Publication) All of the authors of the manuscripts shall directly participate in the planning, implementation of research, collection, analysis and organization of materials, and shall read and consent to the rules of submission, and for the items related to the research and publication ethics not stipulated in these rules, the separately written rules of research ethics shall be abided by.
Article 9 (Manuscript)
1. The manuscript to be submitted to the academic journal shall be one that has not been published in other publicly disclosed publication.
2. The manuscript shall, in principle, be written in word processor (Hangeul or MS Word), and the volume shall also be 6 pages in principle, and when exceeding this, an additional acceptance fee may be levied.
3. The contents may be written in Korean or English, and <title, author information, abstract, keyword, table, diagram, figure, reference> must be written in English. Other details shall follow the separately written direction for the pre- paration of the manuscript.
4. All of the manuscript submitted shall in no way be returned.
Article 10 (Reception) The manuscript shall be received any time through the online submission system (http://submission.forage.or.kr).
1. The date of receipt shall be based on the date of submission to the system.
2. When writing the manuscript, ‘exemplary files for the preparation of the manuscript’which is provided in the homepage (http://forage.or.kr) must be used.
3. The manuscript written in Korean shall take the similarity examination among the manuscripts with the theses registered at KCI using the thesis similarity examination service provided at Korea Citation Index (KCI, www.kci.go.kr) and the certification of the examination results must be submitted together.
4. The English written manuscript may take the thesis similarity examination using the Similarity Check Service of CrossRef at the editor.

Chapter 3 Review
Article 11 (Appointment of Reviewers) The reviewers are appointed by the chief editor, and selected among the members of the academic society, and it could be appointed from outside professionals in case there are no appropriate person to review the concerned thesis. The standard of selection of the reviewers is as follows.
1. The reviewers shall be composed of more than three people for each detailed major in principle.
2. Detailed composition of the reviewers by major shall be the basic, applied research of grassland establishment and its management, physiology and ecology, inheritance and breeding of forage crops, production and utilization of forage, processing and evaluation of forage, grazed livestock behavior and its management, environment and preservation, and other related subjects.
3. Each reviewer shall be examined less than 2 papers per reviewer and there shall be no duplication.
4. In case the reviewer does not submit the reviewer’s comments within the designated period, he may be dismissed.
Article 12 (Review Fee) Reviewers shall be paid an review fee fixed by the academic society.
Article 13 (Review Process) The review of the manuscript shall be done for all the manuscripts received, and all the works related to the manuscript review shall be supervised by the editorial board.
1. The review shall be divided into the 1st and the 2nd review. In the 1st review, 1, such subjects as to the system, purpose, scope, plagiarism and etc. of the manuscript, shall be reviewed at the Editorial Board and in the 2nd review, a judgment for the confirmation of the acceptance shall be made at the Editorial Board based on the review results by more than 3 reviewers.
2. The reviewers shall carry out the review of the allotted manuscript for around 7 days.
3. In case the reviewer is reappointed due to the refusal by the entrusted reviewer, the review shall be carried out for around 7 days from the date of reappointment.
4. The period of review may be adjusted by the Editorial Board if needed.
5. Any indication against the manuscript shall be presented concretely without any ambiguous expression.
Article 14 (Peer Review)Journal of the Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science adopts double-blind peer review in which case, not only authors but also reviewers do not know each other. The details of the review of the manuscript shall not be pronounced other than to the author, and any names of the reviewers shall not be announced at all.
Article 15 (Review Standard) The standard of the review of the submitted manuscript is as follows.
1. It is judged whether it complies with the rules of submission.
2. The creativity, scientific logic, and rationality of the total contents including the rationality of logic development at the introduction, appropriateness of the testing method adopted, overlapping expression or broad interpretation of the result, usage of scientific terminology, feasibility of thoughts, conformity of the cited literature list with the actually cited literature, identicalness of the test results with the thesis summary, and etc. shall be examined.
3. The review results are divided into “Accept”, “Minor Revision”, “Major Revision”and “Reject”.
Article 16 (Process of Review Results) The process after the final decision made by the chief editor after compiling the results of the review of the reviewers shall be as follows:
1. In case of the review result being “Accept”, the Editorial Board shall examine whether the contents of the manuscript may be published as it is.
2. In case of the review result being “Minor Revision”, the author shall be requested to reply to the request for the revision of the manuscript and to the reviewer’s comments, and after the revised manuscript and the written reply as to the manuscript review are received, it shall be examined by the Editorial Board.
3. In case of the review result being “Major Revision”, the author shall be requested for the revision of the manuscript and to reply to the reviewer’s comments, and after the revised manuscript and the written reply as to the manuscript review are received, it shall be sent for the request for re-examination. In this case, the reviewer to carry out the re-examination process shall be the same reviewer.
4. In case of the review result being “Reject”, the reviewer’s comments shall be re-examined by the Editorial Board.
Article 17 (Confirmation of Acceptance) The details of whether to accept the manuscript and its order, publication shall be determined by the Editorial Board and the manuscripts of confirmed acceptance shall be published as per the order of submission. However, this order of publication may be changed at the meeting of the Editorial Board depending upon the need. Confirmation of the acceptance shall be determined as per the following process standard.
1. In case of judgment by more than 2 reviewers given as “Reject”, the Editorial Board shall proceed with “Reject” regardless of the result of the remaining reviewer’s comments.
2. If one reviewer judge as “Reject”, it shall be determined finally as per the Editorial Board’s judgment.
3. If the same reviewer judge the same manuscript being reviewed as “Major Revision”more than twice, the Editorial Board examine this and gives judgment.
4. For the manuscript contents containing each of the following case, a judgment of “Reject”may be given.
① In case the manuscript contains contents inappropriate to be published in the Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science journal.
② In case the contents of the manuscript have no creativity or are irrational.
③ In case among the contents of the manuscript the facts or ideas identified by the author do not stand out or even for those unidentified facts the method described in the cited literature or what is conceived does not stand out.
④ In case the whole of part of the manuscript contents are something already submitted, presented, selected or accepted/presented in other academic journals or publications.
⑤ In case the manuscript is the result of any research cheatings such as plagiarism, forge, falsification.
⑥ Other cases that do not comply with other acceptance rules of Korean Society of Grassland and Forage Science journal, or that are acknowledged as not appropriate for the publication in that journal.
Article 18 (Appeal)
1. In case of an objection or misunderstanding, the author may exchange opinions with the reviewer in anonymity through a mediation of the board.
2. The relevant contents of appeal shall be submitted in writing only once within 2 weeks from the judgment date of the review result, and it may be subject to re-examination if the ground of appeal is acknowledged as appropriate at the board.
Article 19 (Process of Revised Manuscript) The author of the manuscript confirmed for acceptance shall dispatch the revised manuscript with 15 days, and this may be extended to maximum 30 days with a consent by chief editor if it is with unavoidable circumstance.
Article 20 (Manuscript Correction) The correction by the author of the manuscript is limited to once, and it is only to the typographical errors and not to the renovating changes or addition of the contents of the manuscript. Unavoidable for renovating changes or additions, it shall obtain the approval of the Editorial Board, and the additional expenses incurred to the approved contents shall be borne by the author.
Article 21 (Separate Publication) No separately published edition shall be handed out. However, in case the author requires a separately published edition, it shall be requested prior to the academic society and the relevant expenses shall be borne by the author.
